Our orchestra in residence Orchestra of the Swan returns with Rimsky Korsakov’s dazzling symphonic suite Scheherazade, interspersed with text from Yasmine Seale’s beautiful translation of Tales from 1001 Nights.
A late nineteenth century work steeped in Orientalism, Scheherazade also highlights issues of imperialism and female power.
The performance opens with Edvard Grieg’s radiant Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 and includes readings from Henrik Ibsen’s drama, read by our Associate Artist and acclaimed actor Anton Lesser.
