For their 30th anniversary, Orchestra of the Swan invites you to a concert that is both a celebration and a snapshot: a portrait of who they are now, shaped by where they have come from. Like the iconic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, this evening will bring together the many faces, voices and influences that have defined the Swan’s journey - players, composers, collaborators and musical worlds, all co-existing in one richly imagined soundscape.
Since their founding in 1996, the Swan has been driven by curiosity and a belief that music thrives when boundaries are fluid. This anniversary programme reflects that ethos: Bach and Vivaldi sit comfortably alongside Radiohead and Sandy Denny; Vaughan Williams and Grieg converse with Miles Davis, the Velvet Underground and Peter Gabriel. The thread that binds it all together is not genre, but atmosphere, storytelling and a shared emotional directness.
This is not a retrospective in the traditional sense, but a living, breathing statement of identity: an orchestra that continues to evolve, collaborate and re-imagine what a chamber orchestra can be in the 21st century. Above all, it is a thank-you - to their audiences, their musicians and their artistic partners - for thirty years of shared musical adventure.
